| Als Achtjähriger erhielt <b>Reto Borer</b> eine Minigitarre, von der er so begeistert war, dass er schon nach kurzer Zeit an verschiedenen Feiern im familiären Umfeld auftrat. Als Elfjähriger gründete er einen kleinen Gospelchor in einer Pfadfindergruppe. Ende der 1960er Jahre erlangte er die Matura im Typus Musik und studierte anschliessend am Konservatorium in Basel, wo er schliesslich das Diplom als Gesangslehrer und Chordirigent.

| Ab 1968 war Reto Borer Bassist in verschiedenen Jazz-Bands, ab 1974 war er professionell als Musiker in verschiedenen Unterhaltungsorchstern tätig. 1976 veröffentlichte er als Bassist in der Hard Rock-Gruppe <b>[[Monroe]]</b> eine Single und ein Album in Deutschland.

| 1979 erschien die erste Veröffentlichung unter dem Pseudonym <b>Beau Katzman</b>: das in Frankfurt am Main produzierte Album <i>The kat</i>. 1981 folgte das Album <i>Beausitive</i>, doch der Erfolg blieb aus.

| 1983 trat <b>Bo Katzman</b> mit der <b>Bo Katzman Gang</b> auf und erhielt viele Auszeichnungen, doch blieb der kommerzielle Erfolg weiter aus. Das dritte Album <i>In the jungle</i> (1983) enthielt dann aber den ersten kleinen Hit, "(I'm in love with my) Typewriter", der Platz 27 in der schweizerischen Radiohitparade erreichte.

| 1985 gründete Katzman in Reinach / BL den Kinderchor <b>Katz Kids</b>, der die Single <i>We are the Katz Kids</i> (1985) veröffentlichte und schliesslich zu einem der grössten Kinderchöre Europas heranwuchs. 1986 erschien das vierte Album <i>Katz people</i>, das in der Schweiz Platz 11 erreichte und zum bis dahin grössten Erfolg wurde. Das Album und die Single <i>Working on the galley</i> wurden im Herbst 1986 europaweit veröffentlicht.

| 1987 gründete er den <b>Bo Katzman Chor</b>, der heute zwischen 200 und 300 Mitgliedern zählt und der grösste Gospelchor Europas ist. Zwischen 1987 und 1990 war Bo Katzman ausserdem erfolgreich mit seiner neuen Gruppe <b>Bo Katzman and the Soul Cats</b> unterwegs.

| Ein durchschnittliches Popalbum lieferte er mit <i>Seven days</i> (1988) ab, worauf auch Musiker wie [[Curt Cress]], [[Ken Taylor]], [[Peter Keiser]] und Felix Hohl zu hören waren.

| 1990 trat Bo Katzman mit den Katz Kids und dem Lied "Celebration day" als erster Schweizer in der deutschen Fernsehsendung <i>Wetten dass...?</i> auf. Das Lied war der offizielle Song der ersten internationalen Jugendwinter-Spiele.

| Mit dem Weihnachtsalbum <i>White nights</i> (1995) zeigte Bo endlich sein wahres Gesicht: Er ist der Schweizer Cliff Richard. Immerhin vermochte er für seine Band den legendären Pianisten Robert "Blues" Müller (ex-[[Terry and the Hot Sox]]) zu verpflichten. Musikalisch ist das Ganze leider nicht die Rede wert. An seiner fünften Platte, dem Gospelalbum <i>Miracles</i> (1996), wirkten über 200 Sänger und Sängerinnen mit. Hauptsache Chörli, wie es scheint - die Wiedergeburt der schrecklichen Hawkins Singers.

| Ende der 1990er Jahre war er noch immer mit seinem 200köpfigen Laien-Chor unterwegs (angeblich der grösste Gospelchor Europas). Er spielte vorzugsweise zur Weihnachtszeit und war 1997 an den Adventssonntagen im Schweizer Fernsehen zu bewundern.
