Schweizer Beatgruppe ; gegründet 1965
Die Countdowns wurden 1965 in Basel als Beatgruppe unter dem Namen Typhoons gegründet. Ihren grossen Vorbildern, den Beatles, folgend, spielten sie im Star Club und im Hit House, nahmen als erste Schweizer Gruppe in London's Denmark Street Schallplatten auf. Mit "Vacation", "Sexmaniac" (mit Bo Diddley's "I'm a man" als Rückseite) und "The smartest paradise" hatten sie drei Hits, sie traten in der Fernsehsendung "Hits à Go Go" und im Film Unruhige Töchter auf.
Nach einem Artikel im Mojo-Magazin entschlossen sich die Countdowns zur Reunion und nahmen in London neue Lieder auf. Die Urmitglieder Claude Pfau, Hans-Peter "Bölle" Börlin und Hans-Peter Feuz wurden für diese Gelegenheit durch den Sessionmusiker Thomas Möckel und den Komponisten Arth Paul verstärkt. Die so entstandene CD The band of the 60s enthielt neben sieben Neuaufnahmen auch acht Originalaufnahmen aus den 1960er Jahren.
