US-amerikanische Soul-Sängerin ; geboren 1939 in Orlando (Florida, USA) als Betty Harridick
Das Geburtsdatum von Betty Harridick ist nicht geklärt, je nach Quelle werden die Jahre 1939, 1941 und 1943 angegeben. Sie war unter dem Namen Betty Harris bereits seit einigen Jahren im Musikgeschäft, als sie 1963 für Jubilee Records eine verlangsamte Fassung des Solomon Burke-Hits Cry to me (1962; US #44, US R&B #5) aufnahm. Ihre Single Cry to me (1963; US #23, US R&B #10) wurde dabei vom Originalproduzenten Bert Berns produziert.
Nach zwei weiteren von Bert Berns produzierten Singles für Jubilee wechselte sie 1965 zu Sansu Records, ein Plattenlabel aus New Orleans, wo sie vom legendären Allen Toussaint produziert wurde. Sansu Records veröffentlichte insgesamt zehn Betty-Harris-Singles, von denen jedoch nur Nearer to you (1967; US #85, US R&B #16) ein kleinerer Hit wurde. Nachdem ihre Karriere nicht weiter vom Fleck kam, zog sie sich aus dem Musikgeschäft zurück und gründete eine Familie.
Nach langer Abwesenheit kehrte sie 2004 ins Musikgeschäft zurück und trat seitdem bei verschiedenen Gelegenheiten in den USA und Europa auf. 2006 tourte sie durch Australien und trat in der Fernsehsendung "Rockwiz" auf, wo sie "Cry to me" sowie das Duett "Love lots of lovin'" mit dem australischen Sänger John Paul Young sang. 2007 trat sie am "Porretta Soul Festival" in Italien auf und veröffentlichte das neue Album, Intuition.
