Entstehungsgeschichte

Nastassja Kinski, David Bailey und Charlotte Gainsbourg während den Dreharbeiten zum Film The intruder (1999)

David Bailey war in den 1960er Jahren ein bekannter britischer Fotograf. The intruder war nach Who dealt (1993) sein zweiter Film.

Charlotte Gainsbourg über die Dreharbeiten (Studio, November 2001):

"C'était un tournage très amusant. David Bailey est un personnage 'à tomber'. Il est drôle. Il me fait penser à mon père, parce qu'il a le charme qu'ont les hommes de cette génération-là. Cet humour un rien désabusé. Il n'y avait aucune pression sur ce film. Avant, je me projetais à fond dans mes rôles. Là, je l'ai joué de manière légère. Il y avait une vraie distance et une profonde volonté de ne pas se prendre au sérieux."

Handlung

Stella (Marianne Farley), die Ex-Frau von Nick Girard (Charles Powell), wurde vor zwei Jahren mit einer Waffe erschossen, die zum Zeitpunkt ihres Todes noch gar nicht hergestellt wurde... Nick heiratet Catherine (Charlotte Gainsbourg), die er kurz zuvor kennengelernt hat. Sie ziehen in seine schöne grosse Loft-Wohnung, die er ursprünglich mit Stella gekauft hat. Catherine fühlt sich hier als Eindringling in jemand anderes Raum. Ihre Unsicherheit und ihr Verfolgungswahn nehmen zu, als sie seltsame Spuren von Lippenstift auf dem Spiegel findet, und die Haare einer anderen Frau in ihrer Haarbürste. Als sie von einem unsichtbaren Angreifer attackiert wird, fällt ihr Verdacht auf die sie umgebenden Personen. Im selben Gebäude lebt Beatrice Muller (Nastassja Kinski), eine erfolgreiche Kunsthändlerin, von der sich herausstellt, dass sie mehr als bloss vorübergehendes Interesse an Nick und seiner früheren Frau hatte. Charlie (John Hannah), ein begabter Mathematiker und Computerguru lebt ebenfalls im Haus und ist Nick's bester Freund. Er beschäftigt sich mit den Möglichkeiten der Existenz zweier gleichzeitiger Zeitfenster, in denen sich Vergangenheit und Gegenwart denselben Raum teilen. Catherine beginnt immer mehr an ihrer geistigen Gesundheit zu zweifeln und bittet ihn für ihre Untersuchungen um Hilfe. Daisy (Molly Parker) ist Catherine's einzige andere nahe Freundin. Sie lebt mit ihr zusammen in der Wohnung, um ihr Gesellschaft zu leisten, als Catherine's Verfolgungswahn überhand nimmt... wenn Stella tot ist, wie kann es sein, dass in ihrem Tagebuch neue Einträge in ihrer eigenen Handschrift erscheinen? Verschmelzen Vergangenheit und Gegenwart etwa tatsächlich oder gibt es eine logische Erklärung?
